What’s Your Favorite Magic System and Why?
Seriously, fess up. I want to know…
If I share my favorite magic system, will you share yours? Whatever, I’m just going to tell you anyway.
The Twinborn from Sanderson’s Wax and Wayne Saga

Please understand, I love the original trilogy. In fact, those books showed me that magic can be more regimented and defined than I ever thought possible. It was the combined efforts of Brandon Sanderson’s marvelous works and the ever helpful Writing Fiction for Dummies that showed me I could actually design and engineer my way into a great story. It also takes a great deal of practice and work, but that realization sent me down a swirling rabbit hole of discovery and awesomeness.
So, yes, the first three Mistborn novels hold a special place in my heart, but hear me out.
Allomancy is unbelievably awesome. Vin and Kelsier flying through the air mowing down their enemies in a spray of coins as they fight to topple The Final Empire, how much cooler could things get? But then I saw, or rather read, Sazed in action in The Well of Ascension, and The Hero of Ages, and suddenly Feruchemie was all I could think about. And now we get to see people with BOTH!!!
Well, at least one aspect of both, but that’s actually what I love so much about the later series. It combined two of my favorites in a new way, bringing up a host of new options and ideas. By the GODS, you don’t know what cool is until you’ve watched, or read, Waxilium leaping from car to car, chasing a murderer through the streets of Elendel. It just… it..
Please Pardon My Fanboy Moment
Or don’t. It’s really your choice. But I truly want to know what book, game, movie, TV show, or piece interactive puppet theater contains your favorite magic system. Let me know in the comments below, or, if you’re really shy, send me an email.
I can’t wait to hear from you. Until then, Rowenson, out.
